President's Oath
By U. Elizabeth Heinz, Age 17
From: Berlin, Germany
An oath to the country
An oath to the people
But an oath can be broken as fast as you spoke it
As air runs from your lungs and lies dance on your lips
As fast as hate latched onto bones
And truth is kept in a crate
Behind white walls reflecting the sun
Under stars on a flag that once hung so proud
An oath can be broken
An oath can be changed
In a mind full of wrongs
It‘s fast to escape
An oath to the people to loose who they love
An oath to the world to twist life how you feel
An oath to yourself
An oath you held
